I saw this movie when I was impartial 16 in 1974. It made a large impression on me then - that such a vast, absorbing movie could even be made. Now - in 2009 - we salvage the first hi-def home video version of this film on Blu-ray disc. Let me impartial say - Fox did a enormous job! The detail is all there - along with the luminous 70s colors (check out Fred Astaire's taxi approach the beginning for elegant solid yellow), and, of course, the huge John Williams gain. All of the extras from the DVD special edition have been ported over as well. Fans of this movie should be cheerful with this novel edition.

Sure, the movie is dated, somewhat overlong, and the acting a bit wooden - but as shear spectacle (and 70s kitsch) - it kept this viewer eager. Another thing that is very refreshing - sincere models for the special effects work. Some of these models were built 70 feet high in order to ensure realism. If this movie were remade today - I'm shrinking it would suffer from overuse of CGI effects (such as in the novel _Poseidon_.)

One other mark - the opening menu on the Blu-ray disc is not to be missed. Someone worked really hard on creating a menu that honors the film. Let the disc ride up naturally without clicking ahead. A very nice touch.

Coming off of the titanic success of THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE in 1972, a film that kick-started the difficulty movie craze of the 1970s, producer Irwin Allen state out to bring his next movie to 20th Century Fox, a film dealing simply with a fire breaking out in a high-rise building bulky of people. The film was originally going to be based on the 1973 Richard Martin Stern recent, THE TOWER, a work that Allen felt would be the perfect basis for his unusual movie. Unfortunately though, as multiple studios began rushing their enjoy danger films to market, Allen lost out on the grunt for the rights to THE TOWER to Warner Brothers studio. He was able to come by the rights to an eerily similar book though, 1974's THE GLASS INFERNO, written by Thomas N. Scortia and Frank M. Robinson. By today's action movie standards, with posthaste fire cuts and a blaring soundtrack aged to intensify the action, and with tons of CGI, THE TOWERING INFERNO seems tame, and can honestly seem to be, well, dreary to a unusual audience. The fact is though, the film needs to be looked at for exactly what it is. Upright, there is no hit song to underscore the dilemma of the main characters, and the scenes do go on for seemingly forever, but looking at what the movie is, and especially comparing it to other similar films in the genre at the time, the film does absorb up remarkably well. This is due primarily to two very distinctive aspects: the cast that Irwin was able to assemble and the stunt work on point to.

The cast of THE TOWERING INFERNO is not what you would typically accept in a danger film. It is chock-a-block chunky of Hollywood A-listers, with Steve McQueen and Paul Newman, two of the biggest stars of the day, sharing the bill. But it doesn't end there. The cast also includes William Holden, Fred Astaire, Robert Vaughn, Faye Dunaway, Richard Chamberlain, Robert Wagner, Jennifer Jones and yes, a pre-incarcerated O.J. Simpson. Even Bobby Brady is in the film. While the casting alone is a juggernaut of star power, the acting is actually solid. While distinguished has been made about the battle between Steve McQueen and Paul Newman for veil dominance, and who came across as more macho, the fact is, their performances are not swallowed up by the special effects of the film. Allen allowed the acting to co-exist along with the action, even hiring a separate director, John Guillermin, to handle the scenes with dialogue, while Allen himself helmed the action sequences. The result is some genuinely well fleshed out acting moments. Fred Astaire is of course a cover epic and rightfully so, but his performance as the elderly con-man Harlee Caliborne has some staunch depth and tenderness to it, and the heart that Astaire would always imbue into his characters in the 30s and 40s is allowed to be seen here as well. Giving the actors the area to do what they do best, instead of using them as merely space dressing to map in viewers, is one of the strongest elements of THE TOWERING INFERNO, and helps to strengthen the film, giving it a believable realism and not letting it devolve into looking like nothing more than an expensive episode of "The Care For Boat."

The special effects of the film are second to none for the time, and the techniques primitive would go on to inspire a generation of filmmakers afterwards. It has to be remembered that this is long before the days of CGI, and whereas we may not even bat an stare seeing computer generated dinosaurs battling wizards in station on the hide today, in 1974, THE TOWERING INFERNO's action sequences are suspenseful and breath taking. Fair as in BACKDRAFT, the fire here is allowed to consume on the aspects of being a character itself, becoming the antagonist of the film. What must be highlighted though is the work of stunt coordinator Paul Stader who developed some extraordinary stunts and some of the most extraordinary pudgy burns seen on veil quiet to this day. There are no computer generated flames here, and no wirework for the stunt people. They were actually being spot on fire and then asked to jump through windows to complete a high plunge. This was stunt work at its finest, and watching the film for this alone is a pleasure.

The film is definitely fun to revisit to glance what a titanic budget Hollywood action flick looked like in a previous era. Costing an unprecedented $14 million, the film topped the $116 million brand for its tainted, marking it as a rousing success. Yes, the pacing is unimaginative, and the movie is map too long, but it is fun and I recommend picking it up and watching it. With a spacious cast, and wonderful visual effects and stunt work, you really can't go imperfect.

The Blu-ray release features extensive bonus features including: nine featurettes, scene specific commentary by fresh day special effects directors and stunt coordinators, audio commentary by a film historian, storyboard to film comparisons, the AMC documentary "Backstory: THE TOWERING INFERNO," vintage promotional materials and features including a 1977 interview with Irwin Allen, promotional material from THE POSEIDON ADVENTURE, interactive articles from "American Cinematographer" and a level-headed gallery. The materials here are exhaustive, and combing through all of them should be enough to write your dissertation on the film.

When you mediate of the 1984 scare movie "C.H.U.D.," try and believe of an ancient 1950s or 1960s atomic bomb crazed monster movie. The only contrast is that they updated the notion to fit the unhurried 1970s and early 1980's fright of nuclear slay. Most long time fans of horror-I'm talking about fans outmoded enough to peek this junk on cable television around the same time MTV appeared on the scene-have seen this movie before. In some ways, it's a classic even though it isn't particularly gory or scary. I can't relate you how many people I have ran into in the intervening years who have mentioned this movie when a discussion turns to scare films. I always nod my head in opinion and then try to fall in a few titles that better recount the awe franchise. Unexcited, "C.H.U.D." is a charming minute film that every modern aficionado of train cinema should gape, and since obedient outmoded Anchor Bay released it on DVD with a colossal recount transfer and several fun extras, there's simply no excuse not to contemplate this one in the advance future. It's been years since I saw it, and I was greatly surprised at how great I had forgotten. It's always nice to revisit musty friends, eh?

Set in the gritty and grimy streets of Fresh York City, "C.H.U.D." We soon learn something isn't quite lawful in the city that never picks up after itself. George Cooper (John Heard), a substantial shot photographer working on a unique project concerning the homeless, starts hearing things about missing people. Intrigued, and terrorized considering some of the vanishing are people he has worked with recently, he decides to quietly commence investigating the disappearances. Meanwhile, a city cop named Bosch, whose occupy wife vanished without a tag some time before, begins assembling reports on sudden disappearances. His superiors could care less since nearly all of these people are vagrants and similar forgettables. Captain Bosch perseveres, always remembering the pains and dread over his possess personal tragedy. In order to obtain information, the helpful cop pays a visit to A.J. Shepard (Daniel Stern), affectionately known on the street as "The Reverend," a man who runs a soup kitchen to feed the bad. Shepard isn't glad about seeing Bosch, and only reluctantly agrees to succor when the cop emphasizes he is truly valid about solving the mystery. It isn't too long before Cooper, Shepard, and Bosch join forces to defeat an heinous lurking under the streets of the city. What could possibly dwell in the sewers under Fresh York City? Why, something called C.H.U.D., of course! When Cooper goes underground to check on one of his pals, he discovers that monsters have been preying on the homeless. These people are so stupefied they've started arming themselves in order to fend off the contaminated ones.

The photographer takes a portray of one of the mutilated corpses he finds in the sewer, pictures that ultimately demolish up in the hands of Shepard and Bosch as they acquire their case to the chief of police, the mayor, and the head of the Nuclear Regulatory Agency, a guy named Wilson. After an attempt to stonewall these three heroes fails (Shepard threatens to go to the newspapers), Wilson reluctantly reveals that the C.H.U.D. are something called cannibalistic humanoid underground dwellers. Wilson claims a miniature amount of nuclear demolish leaked into the sewers of Novel York and turned a few vagrants into ravenous, glorious eyed monsters with a fondness for human flesh. A mission to flush out the monsters with flamethrowers fails miserably, so it's up to our three heroes to do the job themselves. The C.H.U.D. aren't about to pick any attempts to eradicate them lying down, and eventually go aboveground to wreak mayhem on the innocent residents of the city. More painful truths reach out when Shepard and Cooper survey that Wilson lied about the toxic raze leak, a truth that is distinguished worse and one that paints the bureaucrat in an extremely wrong light. "C.H.U.D." is one of those fun movies you fair can't benefit but chuckle over as you gawk. The success of the film is mostly due to the cast, especially Daniel Stern as the frenetic A.J. Shepard. The Reverend is a cranky, anti-authoritarian type who unprejudiced loves to cause peril. His haircut, a wicked between Stamp Twain and Don King, adds to the general sense of ridiculousness. When he goes mano a mano with the ghastly Wilson, you know the favorite man will finally secure his due. Of course, John Heard isn't a paddle either as the outraged George Cooper. Christopher Curry adds a bit of seriousness as the inquisitive Captain Bosch. Be definite and inspect for John Goodman and Jay Thomas as two cops glum enough to have an encounter with a C.H.U.D. in a diner. The only disappointments in the movie are the lack of gore and the short hide time allotted to the creatures. More C.H.U.D. and fewer messages about the threat of bureaucratic conspiracy and nuclear ruin disposal would have made for a better apprehension film.

Once again, Anchor Bay turned out a grand disc. There's a trailer, special effects stills, and an friendly commentary track from director Douglas Cheek, John Heard, Christopher Curry, and Daniel Stern. These guys have a lot of fun taking potshots at the movie and it's comic to listen to them. Another plus is the fantastic narrate transfer and audio quality (crystal positive, folks) . You objective gotta appreciate that cheesy '80s synth regain! If you haven't seen "C.H.U.D.," fetch cracking. This movie definitely falls quite high on the "must peer" list. It's not gory and not scary, but it is loads of fun.

C.H.U.D. is a bright cult classic 80's terror film that I remember watching when I was a kid, I feeble to have this on vhs along with the unpleasant sequel called C.H.U.D.2: Chud The Bud. What I've noticed about this dvd is that the film is completely uncut and seems to be considerable longer than the previous version which is immense, there were a couple of gore scenes that were carve along with the bloody shower scene. Anchor Bay did a terrific job transferring this film and the represent quality was high, there wasn't any blurry images or maybe that was from my veteran vhs. Anyway the set was about some abominable government guys who are dumping toxic extinguish beneath the sewers in Fresh York thus transforming homeless people into C.H.U.D.s (Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dwellers) uncommon reptilian monsters with fine eyes and taste for human flesh.

A soup chef played by Daniel Stern is concerned about his missing customers who are basically homeless people living on the streets, he decides to picture this to the police and the police commissioner (Christopher Curry) who is also a friend of his investigates the case since there also seems to be a couple of mysterious deaths, along with a used fashion photographer (John Heard) their investigations all leads in the same direction.... the sewers!. They soon divulge a spot by the government to cover-up some of their dirty wok. Yes the premise was extremely cheesy but you gotta fancy it, it was a gargantuan cult classic terror flick with some nice and dusky atmosphere and valid locations and the acting from most of the cast was pleasing marvelous. The fx on the creatures does sight abit outdated but they were large for the time and not to mention the film had a obscene budget.

Director Douglas Cheek balances some of the over the top cheesy monster fx and humor (The Modern York City Police Department has flamethrowers lol) with some serious scenes and there was an unnecessary subplot about George the photographer (John Heard) who is trying to relieve his pregnant model girlfriend which I notion dragged on a bit it was slightly slow, the movie would've done better without that scene. Anyway C.H.U.D. was titanic fun but the sequel sucked, it was more of a comedy and was completely unfunny so its better to avoid it and perceive the first C.H.U.D. instead, oh yeah I almost forgot to mention that the monsters have the ability to stretch there necks to a long height without any explanation, yep it's a hoot!.

I was so contented to hear that both films were being released as a duel situation. "Anne of the Thousand Days" and "Mary Queen of Scots" are independent enough to stand alone, but even more charming when watched attend to attend, since the latter references minor details in the worn.

"Anne of the Thousand Days" is the record of Anne Boleyn and how she was pursued by Henry VIII at the cost of his marriage and the fate of England's thought with the Catholic church. It does dally a bit with the facts but no one really cares since it is presented in such an animated manner. There are some ugly aspects that seem a bit startling in incompatibility with the beauty of the film, but nevertheless it carries quite an impact, and the chance to study Mary and Elizabeth head to head in a couple of different scenes is well worth your time. I particularly liked the depiction of Elizabeth as something of a jealous, fretful woman, since she was known for her tantrums, honest like her dear father.

I pre-ordered this the moment I learned about it, and eye forward to viewing both films in all their old-fashioned glory. And if you're anything like me, a fan of the Tudor generations, you'll want to add it to your collection as well.
"Mary, Queen of Scots", despite its occasional diverging with historical fact has always been a favourite history drama of mine. Being as fascinated by Tudor and Stuart history as I am I was always dart to savor this lavish production but it is the lavish production, gorgeous place photography in France and Scotland, splendid costumes and historical attention to detail that always intrigue me. They all reach together in an racy myth of the chronicle of the tragic young Mary, Queen of Scots from her early years of a priveledged existence at the refined French court, through her years of personal rule in Scotland to her abdication and then her nineteen lonely years as Queen Elizabeth's "unofficial" prisoner in England till her execution for treason. Here is a historical record if ever there was one.

The production boasts a stellar cast of seasoned British acting greats and in particular alot of the film's majesty comes from the lustrous playing of the two leads in their only meeting on shroud Vanessa Redgrave who plays Mary and Glenda jackson repeating her Emmy Award winning interpretation of Queen Elizabeth 1 from her earlier lovely BBC mini series "Elizabeth R". Nominated for an Academy Award as Best Actress for her performance here Vanessa Redgrave has never been more colorful than in her playing of the romantic young Queen torn from her comfortable surroundings at her beloved French court for an perilous future in the Protestant dominated far north of her native Scotland. She is at turns innocent, wily, stunningly shapely, and unfailingly audacious and optimistic, in short a perfect representation of the captivating exact life historical Queen. Glenda Jackson matches her every step of the device as her rival and enemy and ultimately her goaler and executioner. Her's might be the smaller of the two roles but she is dazzling in her scenes and makes all the original portrayals of Queen Elizabeth seem very pale in comparison. I wont utilize alot of time debating the fictional events that are woven into the anecdote here but I will say that this film must first be viewed as fragment fact, piece fiction, and there is no point in getting upset of some of the scenes included here. First and foremost a lot of discussion is always spent around the two meetings between Mary and Elizabeth in the film. As any avid reader of the history of this period will know, despite the fact that both women's lives were torturously intertwined for many years they never actually met. That said and done these two scenes in "Mary, Queen of Scots", showing the two women meeting are genuine and the sparks ingnited between Vanessa Redgrave and Glenda Jackson add up to fabulous acting and drama. Here are two extremely gifted actresses in roles totally worthy to their characters and they enact memorable work together.

The film is rich with other glorious performances as well. Ian Holm is first class as the tragic Riccio, Mary's private secretary who pays the ultimate label for his loyalty to her. Timothy Dalton an actor who I have long admired excels as the vain and beastly Darnley, Mary's second husband who helps lead Mary to her eventual kill. Nigel Davenport plays the Earl of Bothwell more as a impish cavalier than as the coarse adventurer that Bothwell was in dependable life. Nevertheless his acting with Vanessa Redgrave in the scenes objective prior to Mary's abdication are matchless in their romantic passion. Patrick McGoohan plays James Stuart the wily illegitimate brother of mary with unprejudiced the upright levels of malice and superficial grace. If you've ever went camping or trekking and sat around the camp with time on your hands, the Dr. B's soap bottle is arresting read. Until I watched this DVD, didn't know what was the motivation slow those words. This is a chronicle from the long line of genius/eccentrics improper for lunatics, and how the lucky elope brought about a mammoth distinct for the world--a cohesive philosophy, product, and company in the best sense of the environmental movement. The record late the father-sons relationship is very touching, and effectively humanizes (humorously in some parts, to boot) this film. The word opinion that came to my mind as I watched Dr. B spoke: metaphysical -kinetic.

This is an current documentary. It holds your attention sparkling well for the first 45 minutes. Round that 45 petite brand (halfway) and all of a sudden there's a ton of repitition. I got very tired of hearing Dr. Bronner disclose the Good ABC's and One God For All phrase.

Now, I wish that Amazon had some ability to format reviews, because this review deserves to be in a intelligent blue block with white type and at 7 point. How fun would that be to read?

So, if you have ragged the Dr. Bronner's Magic Soap - the pepermint or lavendar castile soap - and, like me, spent an hour in the bathtub reading that white 7 point type on a blue background; you must be dying to know more about this mythical Dr. Bronner and his company. Well you are overly served with this documentary. The director, Sara Lamm, did a extraordinary job of capturing the genius / insanity gradual the corporation. She is clearly in fear of what the Bronner's have accomplished.

My complaint about this film, the myth line is horribly disjointed. There doesn't seem to be a begining and an end; it unbiased sort of wanders all over Dr. Bronner's life; tossing in childhood one moment, grandchildren the next, adulthood next, and then children another. After watching this film, I'm hard pressed to articulate you Dr. Bronner's life history.

The colossal share about this film - this is a company that genuinely cares about doing the honest thing, which translated into success. The Bronner company does some delicate things - lickety-split forward to the last chapter of the DVD, 4 minutes left. The things they do is much (70% of earn profits are given to charity; no executive of the company makes more than 5 times the salary of the lowest paid vested worker) - now that's putting your money where your mouth is. The DVD bonus feature, an interview with one of the grandsons 2 years after the filming is astounding. Bottom line, this company was doing things many years ago that are impartial now seen as distinguished.

The odd thing about this film, it's not a very advantageous film or documentary. It's almost as if a fanboy was star struck by the company and wanted to manufacture something that holds it plot up on high. Bronner was a zealout that ignored his family for a higher cause. We hear that, its told to us; but it isn't explored very deeply. The children, especially Ralph, exercise a lot of time on camera nattering on about not mighty. The grandchildren were the really lustrous ones, and should have been on camera distinguished more. At one point a woman named Gladys is interviewed and talks about some uncommon things. Later on, we catch out that was Dr. Bronner's 4th wife. Out of the blue, no context, no what happened to number 2, and 3 (we know number 1 died shortly after the children were born)? And then Gladys joins the nattering about not a lot.

I cherish the company. I treasure the product. I treasure what it stands for (work hard and you will obtain a glorious wage) . I'm not such a grand fan of the One God For All thought, but even there, he has the accurate opinion - everyone united to a celebrated cause of making the planet spaceship better. I'm sure that Sara Lamm meant well in making this documentary. Sorry, she unprejudiced got the film and record telling side of things a lot off.

An hour and 28 minutes long, jump the last 6 chapters and 1 hour is unbiased true. The movie is not rated, and is PG, actually probably more like G rated. There's no strong language, no violence, no nudity, no sensual moments simulated or otherwise, and no subversive ideas (I'm objective now watching This Film Is Not Yet Rated) . Oh I guess there is a 20 second moment where a woman talks about using the soap for an enema and female cleansing, in mostly those terms. Ah, and lest I forget, Ralph meets up with a long haired piano player that invites him to his room to play some music and smoke an *herbal* cigarette (they conventional the steady terminology) and discuss the exercise of herbs. But nobody ever does any of those things. But according to our beautiful friend the MPAA, this film would have probably gotten an R rating for that one exchange about drug employ.

The DVD includes a couple of bonus features. The interview with one of the grandchildren is a must inspect, 17 minutes.

For years, I was under the impression that the movie industry had forgotten how to beget a truly astronomical film that was not only provocative to glimpse, but also insightful and luminous. Now, at long last, the tide has turned. Film More Entertainment's "The Wild Stallion" is a exquisite example of what a movie should be. The characters approach across as exact people, not unprejudiced cardboard personalities. By the time the film was less than halfway through, I had reach to mediate of both Hanna and CJ as friends that I really cared about.

The cinematography is also ravishing, giving viewers great time to love the beauty of nature all around them, and the extraordinary gracefulness of the horses. There is even a believable area titillating a zigzag deputy sheriff who is in cahoots with the poachers who are out to seize all of the wild mustangs to sell to immense industry for drug testing. City-girl Hanna has reach to win photographs of the majestic animals in their natural environment in the hope that her photos will assist raise public awareness of the quandary of the wild mustangs. If you are expecting in-your-face morality lessons, however, you will not acquire those here. This film is gentle and non-violent in nature. It makes its point without having to beat anyone over the head with it. The unexcited natural landscapes and apt grace of the animals speaks far more clearly than words ever could. Religious references are minute only to the utilize of the term "Judas Horse," a horse primitive by the poachers which intermingles with the wild ones, earns their trust, and then leads them legal into the trap. I am not a poacher, but the practice reeks of something they would actually do.

All of the actors should be commended on a job well done. Fans of Connie Sellecca will be hugely rewarded. For the younger viewers who fancy Miranda Cosgrove from Nickelodeon programs such as "iCarly," here is a side of her acting that we've not seen nearly often enough. No tainted behavior or wild antics. Here she is a very steady human being who carries herself in a believable manner. Some credit also must go to charming newcomer Danielle Chuchran, who plays the country-girl who grudgingly befriends her and ultimately shows her the apt meaning of family values.

The film has moments both silly and touching, and viewers of all ages will arrive away from it feeling invigorated and rejuvenated. This one can be enjoyed by young and outmoded alike. There is no profanity or other offensive state. There are even some resplendent Special Features, including a 10-minute bit of film footage of wild horses area to music. This share alone is worth the effect of the DVD. It also has a unruffled photo gallery with over twenty full-color photographs, some of which even include the film crew.

I was sorry that it did not feature a catchy theme song by either Sellecca or Cosgrove, but that is the only actual complaint I can dwelling about this cinematic gem. Terminate wasting your time reading reviews and order this movie now.

The vampire is certainly a current figure in anime, spawing films from Vampire Hunter D to series like Vampire Princess Miyu. Though the ideas and stories of NightWalker are not exactly new, the anime OAV (speak to video) series is rather cute and involving.

Eternal Darkness is the second DVD (containing episodes 7-12) of the NightWalker OAV series. For readers queer with the series itself, here are a few hastily details:

Private glance Shiro's secret is that he's actually a vampire, but one who has taken on the task of defeating the creatures of darkness in a futile quest to redeem the drop that transformed him to a vampire--viewers may derive this similar to television's Forever Knight. Created by a much vampire bearing the biblically-suggestive name Kain, Shiro also bears a sprinkling of Anne Rice.

Shiro's partner, paranormal cop Yayoi, offers her beget blood to support him as the two must defeat the "night breeds" in a series of six related yet obvious episodes. His "kawai" schoolgirl secretary Riho--though not immediately in on the secret--also finds herself caught up in the struggles between edifying and horrible.

In this second DVD, Shiro's sidekick Riho has herself become a vampire. Though Shiro himself did the deed to achieve her "life" when vampire progenitor Kain had mortally wounded her, Riho now must learn to deal with eternal darkness. The stories do a rather suitable job of characterizing the difficulties Riho faces adjusting to her unusual life while remaining just to the spirit of the first six episodes as Shiro & company must battle the contaminated night breeds.

As before, what really drew me into the series was the characters, as at times the stories themselves are somewhat cliche. When in the final episode Riho apparently has turned to sinister and Shiro must confront and likely destroy her, you'll sit on the edge of your seat trying to figure out how the characters will possibly recover and return to their (un) lives together.

The English voiceovers are passable, but most anime purists will consume the Japanese with subtitles option. The special features aren't incredibly detailed but do include scripts, an art gallery, character info, and production data.

I found that the cliches presented did not detract from the overall stories and came to rather delight in the series as a whole. There may be grittier or more interested vampire anime available, but if you're looking for something different in vampire anime, give NightWalker a try.

Way befriend when, my friend was telling me about an anime series. "It's beautiful frigid!" she said, "The main character is a vampire, and he has this cute runt fairy partner! It's called Nightwalker!" She didn't give me a very detailed plotline, but she had only seen one or two episodes. Anyway, I forgot about it for a week or so, until one day I saw it and decided to acquire it up.

I was not disappointed. I ended up watching the second DVD first by accident, but oh well. I don't know why people support calling this anime series clichéd...it's not. There are some parts that are, but that didn't really detract from the series. There are a bunch of fresh things to like as well though. For instance, I belief it was truly unusual that the vampires could build weapons out of their gain blood. Shido has a sword, and Cain has a whip. Well, actually they can both exhaust either one, but they usually stick to their respective weapons. Also, I like the shrimp detail that their eyes can change gold when they're in burly "vampire mode." (No, that's not what they actually call it.)

Another unique aspect is the breed. The breed are both similar and different than vampires. A few differences are that the breed don't arrive with bodies...they have to enjoy a human. They also feed off of human energy rather than blood. Shido has made it his quest to demolish the breed, even though vampires and the breed are usually comrades. Together with Yayoi, his blood donor and partner, Guni, an urban fairy, and Riho, his young secretary, he sets out to keep humans from them.

The best section of the series though, in my idea, is definitely Cain and his relationship with Shido. Cain is Shido's sire, and he's deeply in admire with him, though Shido doesn't return the feelings. His quest in life is to gain Shido to return to him. In the second DVD all the characters accept remodeled... Cain was rather evil in the first DVD, but in the second one - wow! He's simply pretty.

The opening is one of the coolest openings I've ever seen in any anime so far. The song they play is Gessekai, and it's a fine song.

If you're bored of the usual in vampire movies and anime, check this one out. It's definitely refreshing, and the only poor allotment is that it was too short! It'll leave you wanting more.

If you aren't obvious whether to go with Silly Book Guy "little" packaging or standard, (and I've view some retailers, perhaps anticipating the unpopularity of the tubby "shrimp" packaging, are selling it at a great discount over the standard packaging) here's a exiguous secret:

The "exiguous edition" packaging is tiny more than a 3-D molded Funny Book Guy face attached with rubber-cement to the front of the standard edition packaging. That's right--the standard packaging artwork is suitable there underneath Silly Book Guy's plump face! You can EASILY peel the Amusing Book Guy face off the front of the box without damaging either, and you now have the standard DVD packaging, which will fit on your DVD shelf, as well as a Laughable Book Guy face that you can expose or toss in the trash.

By this point the series had settled into a too-comfortable format that this season exemplifies.

1. Hilarious first act that is soon left gradual by the right status.
2. So-so second act that introduces the gratuitous guest say and expands on the spot.
3. Hit or miss third act that either veers completely away from the general situation or takes the premise to an absurd level. Depending on the execution and one's personal tastes, this makes the episode either decent or poor.

Individual episodes deviate from this at times, but for the most fragment they stick fairly religiously to it. Did I say the guest voices are gratuitous? The stories should not be famous mainly because of the guest issue. This season leads off with The Who episode (which the commentary reveals doesn't feature the entire group, even as it existed then), a symbol of what's to arrive.

That said, I peaceful give this 4 stars because of the mostly gigantic first acts, which this period of the note elevates to an art perform. The best ones have almost nothing to do with the direction of the rest of the episode but are loaded with mammoth gags, like the shuffle to the Festival of Books in "Insane Clown Poppy."

Some of the third acts are sparkling, too, like The Prisoner homage in "The Computer Wore Menace Shoes," or the mob family gathering Homer & Krusty invade in "Insane Clown Poppy."

What's largely missing is the emotional core that was so memorable in the first several seasons. By this point many of the writers, directors, and producers who created and cared about these characters have all have long since moved on to other things. The commentaries gain blooming certain that the 12th season staff fair like making Homer appear as uninteresting and foul as possible. "Homer vs. Dignity" is a particular grievous point featuring Homer doing baby talk in a diaper and getting raped by a panda. When generous emotional substance is called for, such as Krusty trying to set a relationship with his previously unknown daughter in "Insane Clown Poppy," no feeling comes through at all. (Compare it to "Like Father, Like Clown," where Krusty reconciles with his dad, or the waste of "Lisa's Substitute" when Homer gets Lisa to laugh with him again.) In this specific case, fragment of the dilemma is Drew Barrymore's generic boom work completely fails to thunder the emotion that's intelligent for her. In general, though, it reveals that the producers generally seemed to waft through the year.

Still, there are some highlight episodes, like "Trilogy of Error," and "HOMR," and the annual "Treehouse of Dread" is a cramped better than some previous years' Halloween eps. Even the lesser episodes have enormous moments. The animators' commentaries are entertaining as they discuss and illustrate on cloak definite aspects of drawing the expose. The Silly Book Guy's highlight reel is fun to sight. There is collected plenty to relish, even if you maybe won't be pleased it quite as often as the earlier seasons.

I have been a fan of this movie since it came out in 1990. I saw it in the theater, bought it on video tape and finally on DVD.

Imagine my surprise when I read Mr. Beatty was putting together a director's carve of this movie for a propose "Vista Series" release.

I read on various sites, including "Ain't It Cold," that 20-30 minutes would be added and the overall tone of the describe would be darker.

This was a couple of years ago and I haven't seen anything novel on it.

I understand Mr. Beatty and Disney have gotten into some accurate issues regarding who has rights over the film. I unbiased hope they are resolved fleet and Mr. Beatty can find the Director's Sever out.

I worship the first lop of the movie, but felt at times they were holding serve on sure themes in order to bring in as many people as possible to create the relate obliging. If you glimpse at the current droll, it was violent.

I loved Beatty as the unprejudiced cop, Madonna as the dame and Al Pacino as the ganster Grand Boy. I also loved the fact they shot it in the basic color plan of the humorous.
The substantial things we are discovering with the DVD format is that now both the studios and the directors can have their cake and eat it too.
Studios can save out films at a length that can maximize effect sales and directors can demonstrate their films as they intended on DVD for the people who want to watch it.
I am really looking forward to the day we can gawk the director's sever of this film.

The script lives up to its subject, a cartoon strip, but fans of the stale Dick Tracy won't be disappointed. Our extinct current characters are all there and the soundtrack, especially Madonna's sexy "Sooner or Later" is astonishing. The production values are immense, with a sure amusing book feel and appearance, and even if we didn't gain all these colossal items to be pleased, there's the cameo and casting with some of Hollywood's brightest stars. Definitely worth adding to your DVD collection

I honest bought this DVD..., and the verdict is in: It's a blast!!!

THE MOVIE: Certanily one of the best Star Prance movies. Although the main status about revenge is a bit too basic, the sub-plots, including the addition of Kirk's ex-wife and son, makes the movie better. The action is well paced and the special effects are marevelous. Also, the "expanded director's edition" featured on this DVD adds about 5 extra minutes to the movie. The added footage does shrimp to assist the situation, but does a broad deal to flesh out more of the minor characters, such as Kirk's son and Lt. Saavik. Also, the last 15 minutes of the film (some added dialogue was effect in there to have a tiny bit more emotional impact at the ruin of the film) made me jump the grade of the film from a "B" to an "A+."

THE DVD: In addition to having a crisp, distinct describe transfer of the film with oustanding sound, the first disc has a nice audio commentary from the director and an even nicer text commentary from Michael Okuda, co-author of the Star Spin Encyclopedia. (That guy knows EVERY SINGLE Diminutive DETAIL THAT OTHER PEOPLE WOULD NOT EVEN KNOW A THING ABOUT that regards to Star Inch.) The second disc contains the following:

1) The Captain's Log: A 27-minute documentary featuring notice current interviews with Leonard Nimoy, William Shatner, director Nicholas Meyer, Ricardo Montalban, and others. They talk about how they originally intended to place the film together, how they eventually ended up completing that task, and other things.

2) Designing Khan: A 23-minute documentary that features interviews with director Nicholas Meyers, the costume designer, and the production designer. They discuss the transitions they made in costume and production perform from the ST:TMP to ST2:TWOK.

3) Visual Effects: An 18-minute featurette that has interviews with the FX crew. They elaborate how they executed and completed the FX shots. (Stout surprise there)

4) The Star Trudge Universe: A 28-minute documetary that features interviews with two Star Chase modern writers. They discuss how they possess in the gaps between the movies with their books and where they score their ideas.

5) Novel Interviews: Basically 10 minutes of interviews (from 1982) featuring William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy, Ricardo Montalban, and Deforest Kelley.

6) Archives: The archives feature 10 novel storyboard sequences. (That positive beats the storyboard archives on the ST:TMP DVD, which features a mere 3 storyboard sequences.) There is also a thatrical trailer.

So, there you have it. A huge movie with a packed DVD equals a large pick. Catch as soon as possible.

In the wake of Robert Wise's "director's edition" of STAR TREK: THE MOTION Relate, it was only a matter of time before Nicholas Meyer's STAR Lag II: THE WRATH OF KHAN was awarded the same treatment. Half a year later, KHAN does indeed gather the royal treatment with a 2-disc location loaded with extras and fan tidbits galore. The package includes a slightly extended "director's cleave" of KHAN that restores a famous position point (namely, the young cadet who dies in Scotty's arms is actually Scotty's nephew) and a few brief clippings of dialogue (mostly back-and-forth exchanges among the main cast) ; a commentary by Meyer in which he discusses both the film and his approaches to filmmaking; a text commentary by STAR TREK's long-time technical point man Michael Okuda that's packed with more fanboy knowledge than a game of Trivial Pursuit; cast interviews from 1982 (in which Leonard Nimoy wears a pink and white striped suit that makes him stare like a pimp) ; three documentaries covering the making of the film; "A Unique Advance," a documentary where Prance authors Julia Ecklar and Greg Cox discuss how KHAN's site elements spun off into the Trot novels; the film's FX storyboards; and of course, the theatrical trailer. Let's explore at each of these:

THE DIRECTOR'S Chop OF KHAN - the film makes a bit more sense now that the scenes establishing the doomed cadet as Scotty's nephew have been restored, and the restored dialogue adds a runt extra kick to the proceedings (it's especially humorous to hear Spock acknowledge to Kirk's telling him about his son with a disinterested "Keen") . But the film is level-headed as tightly structured and fast-paced as it's ever been; the added footage does nothing to stupid the film down or to wound the legend (although some nit-pickers will gain the hilarious claim that the whopping THREE minutes restored to the film "butcher" it and slay the pace-how can this be when the added three minutes are spread out over the whole film? ) . Rather, it gives it a bit more punch. As for the perceive of the film, it's certainly a lot cleaner and brighter than most other prints, but even with the digital re-mastering, there's aloof a lot of visible film grain. Like STAR TREK: THE MOTION Report before it, KHAN looks its age regardless of the print quality. But this is a minor detail. Overall the film looks glowing splendid.

COMMENTARIES - both intriguing and delightful. Meyer's regular guy vibe and insights into the making of the film are enthralling, and Okuda's trivia-heavy text comments are a joy for anyone who thrives on sparkling useless fanboy tidbits.

CAST INTERVIEWS - a current time capsule in which the film's leads creep the film. But let's face it; the coolest thing about this insert is seeing Leonard Nimoy dressed like a pimp. Spock in a pink suit is perhaps the greatest source of laughs you'll ever obtain.

DOCUMENTARIES - by far, the coolest of these is "Where No Man Has Gone Before," which covers the stylish FX work ILM did on the film. The giddiness with which the film's FX crew recalls their work on the film is enormously contagious. "Designing KHAN," about the film's costume and residence designs, is ravishing excellent, too. "Captain's Log," about the overall making of the film, is uneven though. Where Meyer, producer Harve Bennett, and Ricardo Montalban are discussing what went into the making of the film, William Shatner spends his time being a total wiseacre, either mercilessly razzing his pal Nimoy ("I believe the death scene would have been better if we DIDN'T eye him thru the glass!" and "Oh, he knew he was coming serve, he state me up to mediate he was leaving...I'll score him one day!") or joking about how he ragged women's cosmetics to view younger. And Nimoy is no better, cracking wise about how considerable older Shatner is than he. (For those of you wondering, this is how they act around each other all the time.) The insight/clowning-around mixture simply doesn't jell. But to be fine, at least Nicholas Meyer is finally acknowledged as the author of KHAN's shooting script, not Jack Sowards as has been erroneously credited. "A Current Come" is enthralling, but dry; it bogs down when the authors recite passages from the novels. The moments where they discuss how KHAN formed the backbone of their work and expose their fan knowledge are the most toothsome, even if the supertitles ancient during the film clips steer too remarkable into jokiness.

STORYBOARDS - mind-blowing. We're treated to the conceptual sketches of the film's FX shots (including the combat sequences, which match those in the finished film almost exactly), as well as some terrific concepts for the opening title sequence and the "Spock monologue" finale that really should have been mature in the film. Illustrated by the slow Mike Minor, these storyboards read like a really pleasant droll book.

THEATRICAL TRAILER - delicate dramatic for a teaser, and it gives a friendly conception of what the film was going to be.

Despite a couple of rocky patches, the "director's edition" of STAR Sprint II: THE WRATH OF KHAN is a proper package to a really reliable film. Highly recommended.

As the title said, I do bear this is William Finley's weirdest role ever, judging by the films I've seen with him in the cast. Kill a la Mod is simply improbable, in my view, but at times it's kind of confusing. Alas, all is resolved in the waste, though. Helpful movie all in all.

What a gargantuan surprise this movie was. If you like De Palma's dusky side, this is a must peep. This was an innovative film plan ahead of its time. It made big exhaust of split screens to follow different characters. William Finley turned his his best performance as the creepy Otto. Findley's perfomance, mostly dialogue free, was very Chaplinesque.
